Report:

Ok. Made it back from my trip.

Fished Bradley on Thursday. The water was pretty high, but I still did decent for the conditions. I landed 18 in about 7 hours fishing. All rainbows. Most on...

Thanks all.

I've got a day booked with Jason Cole from Hookers Fly Shop. Gonna spend half day on the C&R section. He says it's $35 for the day permit. That's consistent with what the...

I want to do something different. Suggestions?

I am spending four nights at Smokemont starting Wednesday. I plan to fish two days on some of my usual haunts tossing dries for some naive little trout. I would like to do something different on...

I fished years with a Cabelas Three Forks 7'6" 3-wt using a 4wt line. I caught many smokies trout on dry flies using that thing. Still have as a back-up.

I started with a glass rod. I have fished graphite in one form or other for at least 25 years now. I have no interest in going back. I currently use a St. Croix Imperial 8' 4wt that I've had for...

Alright! I call foul. I've fished all over Cataloochee and my fish didn't look like those.

Impressive set of fish. I love that valley and have picked up an occasional 12+ incher, but never had...

Caught a sea duck in the intracoastal waterway once. On a shrimp on the bottom, ten feet down.

Not an odd catch, but an odd "catch." Shot a bow-and-arrow cast under an overhanging ledge on...

I found a digital Timex watch about three years ago that looked like it had been there a while. It was on Noland Creek though. I loose a pair of forceps about once yearly in the rhodendron.

That was in Cataloochie if I recall. Some pretty water there, and inside a beautiful setting as well. Always one of my favorite trips. My wife and I already have plans for a few nights in the...

Starting to look like the trout I catch ... New avatar

I've caught so many brookies that I'm starting to look like 'em.

Been plying the waters of this great park since the seventies. I don't do it often enough, but I've caught my share.

If more dies off each year, would those left get bigger because they had less competition for food?

I believe it is done in the Cranberry Wilderness in West Virginia. I see horse drawn wagons pulling in a weeks supply for fishermen often.

This has been my experience. Trout will eat a freely floating cigarette butt, but won't touch a live grasshopper if it's being held detectably against the current.

Numbers

I posted a thread a few weeks back about "How'd you do." It got very little interest. This one, seems to get more. So, I'll add my $0.02. In 30+ years fishing the park, I've caught one 15-inch...

Doin' any good? ... How do you answer?

Anytime we fish and are seen by others (which isn't very often if I get my way), we invariably get asked about our success. First, how do YOU define "good" and, second, how do you respond?

When I...

Balsam Corner Creek

Anybody ever fish it? I've been tempted, but can't seem to get over passing up all the good water on the way up to it.

How about the stream it flows into up past the junction?

Been there, done that. It is a pretty neat show if you catch it right. I usually get a campsite, hike up and fish for the day, come back to camp for dinner, then go take in the show around dark. ...

I was he. Actually, I ended up with 34. Just couldn't stop :)

I usually do well (3 - 5 per hour) on that stretch.

I spent Friday at the event. My first time at anything like this related to fishing. I needed a days rest after three days fishing earlier in the week :)

Doesn't matter

I'd take a #14 Thunderhead, but would not feel at all disadvantaged by a #12 or #14 bushy brown or gray dry fly by any name.

Nice section of water

I always like Pretty Hollow to Lost Bottom. Not the biggest fish in the park, but they're usually eager to take a fly. I caught 32 on that section one day earlier this year ;)

I wear a waist pack for raingear, lunch, water filter, etc. I carry my flies, tippet, nippers, floatant, etc. in shirt pockets.
