If you're looking to catch browns I'd stay away from the north. Yes, they are there. But in very limited numbers and in very hard places to catch. For stocked fish anywhere from above bald river...

From the end of November through early march I only use a 10' 4 weight. You just cannot best a long rod for nymphing... 9' 3 weight for everything else except streamers.

Interesting.....we are 6 months away from bear season...so really odd. That being said the park does employ people to track and kill hogs...I bet it was their dogs...I'm guessing a squatter wouldn't...

There are GIANT fish outside the trophy waters too...the 11$ tribal permit def gives an opportunity at large fish...I've caught fish up to 24-25 inches well above the trophy section...

The trophy waters are a lot of fun on the reserve...however. prices for that stretch have about quadrupled since the 20 dollar days... also keep in mind that north Carolina licenses are not cheap...

I have found more and larger shrooms this spring than ever!! The big yellows seem to be everywhere. I've even found a couple dozen in my yard!
