just get some colored craft paper, prop it up behind your fly w/ something, and take a pic. hobby lobby sells a large variety of different colored, heavyweight papers that work perfect.

I've fished the battenkill. I wasn't too impressed. I caught some brookies, and the fishing was ok, but nothing special. Tell him to go to the museum of fly fishing up there. It's pretty neat.
