The only spoiler for the trip was my dad - he's 73 and suffering from a bit of dementia, set his fly rod against a tree to take a tinkle, and couldn't find it. :frown:

We looked for over an hour...

I wasn't that thrilled with trying the dropper but it works if you want to catch (a lot) more fish!

The downside is you naturally have more tangles and snags. Shorter casts and a 7.5 foot leader...

Funny you mention the dropper rig - I was in cimarron canyon nm yesterday and I started using the dropper rig and caught 8 browns - only one of which took the dry.

I am anxious to share some photos of a fishing trip I took yesterday, but can't seem to find a way to get the photos on here. It appears you have to have a host online and then link a URL to to...

I love the setting in cat but I swear I've fished it a dozen times and caught nothing but fingerlings.

The setting would have you believe there are whoppers to be had, but my experience there...

Wow. I've never even SEEN fish that big in the Smokies, much less caught one. It's obvious David has a lot of skill. I'm hoping I can cath JUST ONE fish the size he is holding, by dumb luck if...

Will trout still take a dry fly that turns into a wet fly?

Someone told me that the trout won't usually take a dry fly that's wet, and is below the surface. I'm a novice fisherman so excuse this if it's a dumb question.

Do trout bite a dry fly that you...

Cherokee national forest fishing?

I live in TX, but you don't seem to hear much about fishing in the Cherokee national forest. Is it comparable to the national park? Better? Worse? Differences?

It was good, but they failed to mention the Sasquatch sightings. Finding Bigfoot is much more realistic.

I'm guessing these big fishies feast mostly on other fishies and rodents, lizzerds, and snakes, if they do in fact survive.

Does casting in my front yard and really using my imagination count?

I'm in Tejas. If I have 8 full days on the water fly fishing in any given year I'm lucky. But I sure spend a lot...

Talking Never considered that!

Interesting! So one of the reasons I'm stuck with the fingerlings is that I'm too lazy to throw anything out there except a #14 tan elk hair caddis?

Both of the Sams brookies measured around 8.5" on Saturday. The one thing that really struck me when I caught the first one, was how disproportionate the jaw was with respect to the body...

Interesting. So you (and perhaps David) would be a proponent of keeping a fish or two each time out?

I asked Ian Rutter a similar question years ago, and he said something to the effect that the creel policy - 5 fishes 7" or larger - tends to mean that there are more...

Is it just me, or does it seem like all of the fish in the Smokies have been reduced to fingerlings?
