i usually have pretty good luck on the elk with #12 or #14 beaded prince nymphs. also #12 "trout candy", available at 'tim's flies and lies' in lynchburg work pretty good.

a cleaner that can be used on the water would be ideal, i do a search for 'glide'. *thanks again. my 6wt line is less prone to sinking, and it is a different type of line.

one thing i have found that helps get the nymphs down is replacing the tapered leader with about 5-6 feet of 5x tippet, and then adding about 18 inches of 6x to the end.

i'm not sure, but i think my superfine is 7' 8" full flex, i'll have to check. double haul helps alot, about the biggest i throw with it is a #10 wooly booger.
