Re: Snakes

Watch where you place your flyrod on the bank. Watch even closer when you go to pick it up. Got a couple shots of this rattler that my buddy came across this past Sunday at Tremont...

Re: off the topic question, *if I may....

Yep, 9.25%...which amounts to...9.25 cents per $1 spent. He's right though, that's why we don't have an income tax. Either way, probably not worth bringing your own food. However, if you need food...

Re: Fly Box Found

Re: Newfound Gap and Leconte Weather

You're right, it is awesome. Never knew it was out there either. Will sure make backcountry trips a lot easier to plan in the future. The only exception to it all is this....it's still the Smokies....

Re: Is it just me

I must say....That looks pretty darn fun! Reminds me of the old Boy's Life (scouting magazine) advertisments about building your own hovercraft. If I had only seen that picture 13 years ago......

Newfound Gap and Leconte Weather

Byron,

Where do you get your daily weather forecasts for Newfound Gap and Leconte? It's always nice to know what's going on at 5000+ feet (and usually it's a lot different than the valley). The...

Re: Is it just me

I think RFowler said it best, it's just "God testing your patience." I'm in no way defending the actions of people that most of us would consider to be rude, but how do you respond to those people?...

Re: Black Bear Encounters

Personally, I see no need for bells or spray in GSMNP. The bears here are not like the Grizzlies or Blacks out west. Yes, the tend to be curious, but I would hardly call them aggressive. This past...

Re: Abrams Creek Campground

I think Hugh is mainly referring to black bear. However, if you hear dueling banjos off in the distance, I would head the other direction.

Clinch

Anyone been on the Clinch in the last couple days? What's working there right now? Any ideas or an outlook for this upcoming weekend (3/4 & 3/5)? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Black Bear Encounters

I've found that the best way to keep bears from attacking YOU is to smear peanut butter on your fishing partners pant leg or camping partners tent. And always make sure you aren't the slowest runner...

Re: Black Bear Encounters

The last death by a bear must have been May of 2000...I think. Husband and wife were hiking up Little River trail. Husband hiked on without his wife, who wanted to wait back and hang out by the...
