Wow. So you literally jumped over the snake to avoid him? Is that a timber rattler? How common is it to see one of these in the wild?

Whispering Creek...not mine, but sure sounds nice! Yes, Cosby Creek outside the park is good fishing IF your cabin is in a private area. They stock CC heavily outside the park.

If your cabin...

An endorsement for David Knapp, guide

Me and my 14 year old son are from Texas and don't get a lot of chances to fly fish, so we are a bit on the clumsy side. It really helps us to hire a guide when we come to TN so that we can continue...

Are all gsm waters this low?

Sheez. Cosby Creek is about as low as I've seen it. Brought 4 to hand this am, but about toe thirds of the runs I usually fish are just a trickle right now.

While I understand and agree with respect for these black bears, I think the fears of them are a bit overdone. Certainly they shouldn't be fed or pestered, but it is extremely unusual for a Smokies...

Questions regarding the "pink weenie"

I see a lot of photos of fish here with a pink weenie in their mouth.

Is that a below-the-surface "fly"? Do you do a dropper rig with it? Do you weight it any? How far below the surface?

I...

Outside of the park, Cosby Creek is fished out by the locals, who follow the stock truck around. What's sad is that many of these people are relying on the stockings for food on the table.

Now, I...

I think I would rather watch fly fishing on TV in lieu of fighting the Cades Cove crowd.

There are many, MANY wonderful streams and campgrounds in the Smokies that do not require you to drive...

I’ve always wondered about Big Creek. Having a cabin on the eastern side of the Smokies, I woke up today with the intent of exploring this stream. Since we have had a cold snap in the Smokies, I...

Is it safe to have a drink of water from the stream?

I was on Cosby Creek today and by 4 pm I was feeling mighty parched. Started having hallucinations. ;)

Sure wanted to drink a big drink of that crystal clear water.

Is it safe?

Ummm...I think dry fly season might be here

I'm here for a week of fishing by myself. I am limiting my fishing to the eastern side of the park to avoid the crowds.

Had some jet lag so I didn't really hit the stream until 11:30am. I went...
