When I see a cairn on trail I stop and look around. I have found a few things I might have overlooked otherwise. In the stream, except for one occasion, they have been pretty pointless.

My favorite this time of year is a foam beetle, especially if I'm dropping big nymphs underneath. The flies mentioned above are also great choices. Don't overlook pink weenies either

Solid advice here thus far. It is a busy trai like Abrams falls. I wouldn't start fishing until I passed mouse creek falls, where 70% of people turn around.
