I have noticed that on the bigger water, that a longer tippet seems to help with the drift. I have been trying a 15 foot 6x leader and been noticing less drag on the fly.

Vol,
a size 18 - 20 sulphur would be optimal and a size 18-20 midge, you could also try a split case sulphur nymph size 18. I had best luck with a zebra midge last weekend and a 15 foot 6x leader....
