OK, talked about fishing rules, regulations and updates yesterday on here so decided actually to fish last night after work. I did allright on Friday evening with a 10 inch brook and 7 inch or so rainbow, but went out in the heat of high noon on Sunday to try some soft hackles I have been tying so did not expect much and got just that, skunked!
I got in the water about 5:30 straight from work last night and started throwing, first fly, no go, so switched out after about 10 casts or so. Third cast with the new fly and bam, hooked up and knew right off it had some size to it. Started reeling him in and as the rod bent I knew to get him up and back thru the seam was gonna be tough without breaking off. I normally have 8 to 9 ft of leader with 2-3 ft of tippet on the Clinch so as I cranked and walked backwards I was close to all tippet from the rod tip out and just knew he was gonna be lost, but managed to net him, as I noticed the fly was on the inside wall of the net and he was already clear of it in the net!
After a quick photo session, he went back to swimming and I kept casting, got one more hookup with a horizontial shake off about a foot off the water from a 10-12 incher but felt no remorse after that first slot eligible fish.
