Hugh Hartsell's version of the Smoky Mountain Blackbird represents a snail purdy good. They may work. Not really keen on how trout feed on snails but I would think they would root on the bottom to dislodge them. I would also think a good many are dislodged from people wading. Dead drifting said nymph on bottom may suffice.
