BigMax--They do hibernate, but just sort of; that is to say, they might get up a few times during the winter, unlike the total hibernation practices of bears in colder climates. I believe Mike Pelton, the bear specialist for the Park for years, did extensive studies on this using tracking collars. He may have even done some instructional work tracking bears to their dens.
