Shoot me an email and I will send you the email I received on this. It had a sign-up sheet as well.

I am sure this topic has been well talked about but this is new to me. Can you update me on the poisoning?

Default Brook Trout Restoration on Lynn Camp

    Mac and GB03,

The folks are referring to part of the Native Brook Trout restoration project on Lynn Camp Prong. Basically, all of the rainbows above the Cascades are going to be first fished out (June 2-14?) and then the remaining fish will be poisoned later. The stream will then be closed while it's restocked with Brookies and closed for a few years until the Brookies have taken hold.

You can do a Google search on the subject:

"Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if he kept his mouth shut."

Do you simply keep the little rainbows & brooks or do you try to relocate them as well?

    Hey Guys,

If you want to help call Steve Moore at 865-436-1250. He is the head fisheries biologist at the Park. He told me it was OK to post his phone #.

If you relocated the trout to another stream in the park or if you moved them down below the cascade there would be an overcrowding or beyond carrying capacity issue, ie. too many trout and not enough food.

Unfortunately, killing those trout is the prudent thing to do to achieve the goal of the Park Service's brook trout re-introduction program.

The big Fish-Out is good because the trout will be consumed and not wasted.

    Byron:

Is this "fish out" starting on 2June, like I believe I read somewhere? Just confirming, because our next weekend trip was for 31May-1June, with us returning on 2June. I would love to participate, and I think I could talk my boss into letting me have an extra day. Thanks.
