Wolf, I was a little upset by the looks of thing on the Clinch...You are 100% accurate on your description of stockers! Brook, brook, brook! Hopefully It'll feed the Big Browns for a while!

    Default Clinch last night

Fished above the weir last evening after it seemed they didn't cut off as scheduled at 6PM. The water was high and fast at the Horse trailers when I got my big frame in there at around 7PM.

Very little midge activity, so I put on a trusted Christmas bugger of the Seagulls and caught 5 fish before I gave it to a friend to try. I proceeded to catch nothing else. The first three fish were a brook, bow,and brown, and ALL were in the slot. BTW, I have driven 18 hours straight to catch brookies that size or better! The downsize of course is that Joe Baitslinger was there and killed two fish easily in the slot. I did get the larger than average stomach's and examined those with some very good surprises there.

I wonder if TWRA is policing the area at all. I know with budget cut's and summer lake usage it's hard to be everywhere. Also, I wonder if anyone knows someone who could let me know if it is possible for a private individual to purchase signs for TWRA (upon their approval of course). That way they get their signs that they obviously can't afford and said individual could get a tax break somehow, or some fishing group could help pay for them.
I am a great admirer of spectator sports, especially on television; it keeps the riffraff off the trout streams.

My fishing buddy called me last week to tell me that he talked with a TWRA officer at the weir dam, and she said that they have been writing many more citations than they should have to. They have been parking away from the area and walking over and just hanging out waiting for people to come out. I say more power to them. Let the violators pay the TWRA officers salary for one year. Eventually word will get around that they are ticketing and that stuff will slow down....I would have liked to been there that evening and sat back and watched the activity.

I also floated the clinch this weekend but no sign of any officers. There were a couple of guys that held up the boat ramp around 7 am that morning. They were just down there getting all of their stuff organized for like 15min until people started shouting at them. Its just plan disrespectful to hold up the ramp for any time longer that enough time to drop you boat and pull back up, "or at least in Mississippi it was..." But as for officers go I have fished different parts of the clinch for the last 5 weeks and haven't been checked yet, but I have seen some stringers of slot sized fish come out. I also fish the park about 3 times a week if not more and haven't been checked there either. Where are all of the good guys at?

    Default Socialist Fishermen

    JZimmerman,
Welcome to TN and especially east TN. We have the best trout fishing here east of the MS! However, it's not without it's problems.

What did you expect though? Those of us that try to help a river and it's fishery, just to have folks like that (the rule breakers) that don't respect themselves, others, or for that matter shared property (the fish your license helps to pay for)because "it's my right". It's the same guys that will steal your rods out of your vehicle, fish 24/7/365...but they of course are disabled and only exercise on the 1st and 15th of the month to go to the mailbox and pick up the check that you and I provide for them. I am also willing to bet those same folks don't eat the fish because they are too lazy to clean them, or cook them. They "give them away" to folks of like kind who may or may not use them. You can't change their attitudes, just as you can't change mine....a fishing snob, elitist, or whatever you want to call a catch and release, sport fisherman, that does it for an adrenaline rush, especially on big fish.

TWRA did change the regs. which has been an ongoing debate, fight, for a long time. Will the regs improve the stream, probably yes, and time will tell. In order to get more show of force, we need more officers. And yes, they are probably up on Norris arresting drunks and the likes, but we do need more. Support TWRA by writing your representatives in the state, those that were going to take money from TWRA and put into the general fund or so I had heard?
