Ok, then June grass was still miserable. Actually, the worst I've seen. However, poppers like crease flies still performed. June grass comes with good and bad. The bad - a big ol' mess, can't fish flies near the bottom and lots of jelly fish. The good - LOTS of baitfish.
Fished off-shore one day and had plenty of good casts into some Bonita with no success. Not sure what was going on there (I'm sure it was the fish, equipment, fly and not the angler!). Hooked into a nice Amberjack. If you never caught one on the fly, it's like landing a school bus.
Night fishing was lousy. FYI - never night fish when there's a full moon. Disperses the bait too much. However, I did land a nice red with conventional tackle.
Surf was fun. Lots of Blues and Ladyfish. Had to use poppers. Poppers on the surf reminded me of dry fly fishing in the smokies. It's fun to watch them hammer the fly.
I hope this helps anyone who is heading down soon. Would love to hear future reports.
