What classic combo do you reach for first? Lets see some picts!
I have been using my FF756 and Martin 67A for warmwater species and loving it!

Hey TMan...what a fat smallmouth...wider than a football.
I don't know if it qualifies as "classic", but I love my Orivs Battenkill 3/4 on my TFO 2wt...even the 5inch trout are fun on it.
That's a very nice looking vintage outfit Troutman. Shame on you. I already have too many flyfishing outfits and your giving me ideas. That's an awesome smallie. IJ has the right comment for that fattie. The closest I have to a vintage outfit is a 12 year old St. Croix Pro, 9' 6-7 weight with the same age 7-8 Battenkill.

My closest thing to a classic combo is an Orvis Fullflex glass rod that I built about 25+ years ago and a Pflueger single action reel that I got with a bamboo combo purchased from Norm Thompson outfitters in 1964....have caught everything from mtn brookies to largemouth with this outfit

Ozark Cutthroat and a 1948 Orvis Battenkill 8 &1/2 foot 3 piece 5 weight

a nice McCloud River rainbow and a 1949 Heddon Model #50 9 ft 5 weight

another Ozark rainbow and a 1931 E.C. Powell Hollowbuilt 9 ft 5 weight
I would say over all that one of my 2 ferrule Heddons make it out the door and to the stream more often than any of my other rods.
Fishing is always more fun on a old bamboo rod.....Tentwing

Nice fish too!

The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation, unless they fly fish... with apologies to Thoreau
Here's my latest combination. The rod is a PHY 8-13 built by Walter Babb. The reel is a 1930's vintage Hardy 3 3/8 Perfect. The Little River Rainbow is the first fish on this rig. The package is well balanced and makes a delicate dry presentation almost effortless.

Walter makes some pretty rods. I like the cigar grip. What length is the rod and line wt are you throwing with it?
Thanks Tentwing & Troutman. The rod is an 8ft 5wt. I am using H & H (Cortland 444) DT5F. Walter was kind enough to let me make the cork grip and reelseat. The seat insert is from a burl I sawed off a Georgia maple tree. It is impregnated with Minwax Wood Hardener per instructions from an on-line knifemakers forum.
