Default Doing Business in Foreign Countries

In today's fishing report, Byron said "And there are others like England and Australia where it is almost like shipping an order to Georgia." I would imagine that's gotten pretty sticky since Russia started attacking Georgia.

Wouldn't have thought shipping to such friendly countries (England and Australia) would be that tough!

    Default You got that right!

They was amphibulous tanks. Nucular powered. Come right across the ocean, come aground down by Savannah and rolled right through Georgia like Sherman on caterpillar tracks.

    Very Good Charlie,

Maybe I should have said Kentucky or Alabama. Actually there are some countries that we won't ship to. We won't even look at an order from Malasia, Java or Thialand. In those countries they have a lot of stolen credit cards. And they are impossible to verify. We have written off a lot of loses in the last few years and lessons have been learned. We get orders occasionally for several thousand dollars. Instead of going to all the trouble of trying to check them out, we toss them into the trash if they come from certain countries. We have done very well in countries like England, Australia, Tazmania, France, Sweden and Spain. Canada has been pretty good to us too. We have to learn how to deal with each country. Sending orders to U.S Military personel stationed in other countries is easy.

    Byron,

I would imagine there is a certain amount of risk that you have to accept any time you expand beyond the walls of the shop. I remember hearing Scott from the Creel talking about getting stiffed for $500 worth of equipment sold in his shop.

It's got to be pretty exciting to get the kind of international name recognition that LRO has, though, as long as you can manage the risk. Keep up the good work; it keeps our local fly shop going strong.
