    bum,

As far as I could tell, there are about 3 pools that were holding the majority of the fish. All were down stream of the campground. My advice would be to drive along, stop at any likely-looking, slow-moving pools, and look down. If they're in there, you'll see them.

As far as flies go, I would suggest any white streamer. Just make sure you have enough weight on it to get it in the strike zone. These fish are not going to move more than a few inches to feed. You may also want to try a pellet fly.

On a side note, this is probably as close as you can get to actually fishing in a hatchery, IMHO.

    Hope this helps.

Paint Creek is my back yard and I have only fished the DH once this year just to kill an hour. Before the drought the fish would move every where on the creek and would adapt and become tricky, this is not the case now. The fish are stuck in the deep holes and runs and can't move, hopefully with the rain we are getting and the snow from the top of the mountain the creek will rise. I have been in the tailwaters to long and miss the mountain streams.

Fished the DH a lot before they fixed and reopened the road. It was fun and easy fishing. Had my son hooked into a brown that was mid 20s before it wrapped and broke off while trying to net it.

Kyle, I heard they caught some seasonal agra. workers (legal or not), cast netting trout in some of the pools along the road. Wish they would leave the gate closed yearround.

When I was there earlier in the year, I pulled three cans of dog food where someone had been baiting the holes and two empty corn cans from the stream. I also managed to pull a couple of trot lines with multiple hooks tied to a tree over one of the deeper pools that I put in the trash bag with the cans. It's too bad not everyone wants to play by the rules.

That's horrible. Kudos to you for taking that stuff down.

I went a few times last year and caught on to some guys who would work in teams to get them out. The person fishing would stay in the middle while the two accomplices would crawl into the woods a few hundred yards down the road on each side of the fisher. They all three had radios and were all dressed in camo. When they saw the TWRA truck coming down the road they would radio to one another and the fisher would hop into the woods and hide while the truck drove by. Is there a more sevier penalty for pre meditated poaching?

It's too bad there is not a system of volunteer deputies that could issue citations when they come across such instances.
