TU Plate is like the Oscars®….Envelope Please!
February 26, 2009 – Those who preordered the first 1,000 TU specialty plate are like nominate actors at the Academy Awards waiting to see if they will win the Oscar®. We are all waiting to open our envelope and find that our TU specialty plate is ready for pick up at the country clerk’s office.
I have received numerous e-mails and calls about the progress of the TU specialty plate. Most are from individuals, but some are from county clerk’s office wanting to know when the plate will be delivered to their office.
The TU plated is off the road test with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) statewide. The results of the test were due back on Jan 23, 2009, but were delayed due to bad weather in East Tennessee in January / early February. However, the tests were completed in early February with no negative comments or feedback from the statewide road test.
The plate is currently in the production phase which is an automated process. If everything continues on track, you should be notified via a letter from your county clerk's office in late February / early March 2009. No need to contact the County Clerk's office. The notice will be mailed to individuals simultaneously with delivery of the TU plate to the respective counties where individuals reside. The county clerk’s office will receive no advance notice the TU plate is forthcoming until it arrives.
If you would like to know when the plate is being released to the first 1,000 individuals, then please sign up for updates about the plate at http://www.tuplate.org/ . This will be the quickest way for you to be informed about the delivery of the TU plate. You will be notified of release as soon as it is in the mail! The notice will probably come from the State of Tennessee and will instruct you that your plate has been delivered to your county clerk's office ready for pickup. If you have renewed your plate earlier, they will prorate the TU plate.
Hope this helps. We are all anxious for the TU plate to be released and receive our Oscar® in disguise! I believe you will be very pleased when you see the plate. Please be sure to tell others to purchase one for fishery conservation in Tennessee!
