I have not explored using streamers, and would like some advice please. Do you carry an extra spool with sinking line or do you just go armed for fishing streamers? Also any tips for fishing streamers would be appreciated. Thanks

I usually only fish streamers in in the Park during late Fall to winter, but do a lot of warmwater and salt with them. In the park now, I'd use a floating line and weight on streamer. Keep them sparse. My other streamer tossing, warm and saltwater, I use a sink tip. I have some full sinking lines that get used very rarely, when fishing deep ponds- especially in Maine. I prefer a sink tip. Remember to cut your leader back- about 5ft or so. A long leader will negate the sinking of your line. In the park, I don't think a sinktip or sinking line would be effective on MOST waters. I'd fish a small streamer similar to a nymph. Watched on folks in Maine caught Landlocks on them, I watched and learned from them.

Depends on what type of fishing you are talking about. As Kytroutbum stated, if you are fishing deeper water then a sinking tip would be useful. For example if fishing for warmwater species that may be more than 4' deep (like bass or stripers), I would use a sinking tip. For most of my trout streamer flingin' I don't bother with one since I am ripping them in 2 to 3ft of water.

As far as fishing techniques, it varies. You just have to try and see what the fish are wanting at that time. Sometimes they want a slow upstream twitch, others want a cross current steady jerk, and ocassionally they want a violent downstream rip. You just have to experiment.
