I just saw Little River Journal and Steve Yates article. THIS IS A KILLER PATTERN!! Several years ago, My brother and I were in the WYO/Mont. Beartooths sight fish cruising Cutts. We started using beetles for "blow ins". The cutt's were in 5-10 foot of clear water and periodically rose to the surface. We saw a definite preference for the winged over a non-winged beetle. All my new beetle ties are now winged. I tie mine with a light dun hackle tip wing, black dubbed or peacock herl body. I use black Krytal flash for legs. If trout are finicky and late summer low water conditions allow them a good look, try this pattern.
