    Default Caney Fork Regs

The TWRC Fisheries Committee passed the proposed regs for the Caney Fork including raising the Brown Trout protected length to 24" and believe it or not, reducing the overall creel limit on trout to 5 fish per day.

It was an exciting meeting with a large crowd of trout anglers, many from Middle Tennessee. My hat is off to our Region's Commissioner Mike Chase of Knoxville who serves as Chairman of the Fisheries Committee.

Great job to everyone involved. This must pass the total Commission vote tomorrow. It is rare for a Committee vote to be overturned.

Wouldn't that be nice. Especially if it required qualifications and couldn't just be financed in with the cost of the boat!

A one day Non Res trout license would be nice too....but, Rome wasn't built in a day I suppose.

    Default What about the Clinch?

Any chance of getting the same (or at least close to the same) regs on the Clinch? Just dreaming I suppose.

I hope the 5 fish creel limit made it through the vote Yesterday. Commissioner Chase who is Chairman of the Fisheries Committee asked me out of the blue one day what I thought about a statewide 5 fish limit on trout. I had never thought of it and my answer was "I don't know". They have to consider fishing license sales, tourism, total angler satisfaction and things like that. But see if this makes sense. With a lower creel limit maybe they could stock less trout. I think TWRA spends about $1.2 million on that. That would save money. And, if they stocked less smaller fish wouldn't the growth rate of insect eating trout increase due to less competition for food?

    Just a thought or two.
