    Default Winter Steelie

Fished this morning on a stream on the PA/NY border - 20 Mile Creek. Air temps were 25 at 7am, warmed to 30 by mid-day – a few snow flakes. Stream conditions were good – great color and flow, but the fish really did not corporate. Went 1 for 5 – landed the first one at 2pm. Nice fat fish. My brother in-law fished for a few hours in the in morning – missed 2. Tried many colors, depths, and speeds. It felt great to get out in the weather. Here’s my one pic.

Expecting 6-12 inches of snow in the next 2 days. I'm going to try to get out for a few hours each morning.

I planned on steelhead fishing all this week, but mother nature had other plans. The temps in PA did not get above 22 degrees for the last 2 days. I tried to get out before the ice started on the streams, but did not have any luck. I met 3 other guys that had the same idea as me. We all left after 30 minutes. This is what we saw Tuesday morning. I did not try on Wednesday b/c I knew the streams would start to freeze solid (slower moving holes).

Too much ice to get any kind of a drift. I do not mind the cold, but I could not fish b/c of the ice. When I fished on Sunday, I did not take a temp reading, but I knew the water was close to freezing.

I hope the temps get to the mid 30s by the end of the week. I may have a chance to get out 1-2 more times depending on the water conditions.

Nice fat Erie Steelhead! Are you driving from Knoxville? If so, how long of a drive for you to get up there?

gutshot its a 10 hour drive from the knoxville area to get to erie pa ...i am orignialy from there... steelhead fishing is great fun ...it generally starts in oct and fishes through till mid april.....the erie tribs can get very crowded and you will be fishing shoulder to shoulder alot.... the best bets are after the fish get up in the tribs after some good rainfalls and have a chance to spread out...once you do it you'll be hooked ...nothing like 28 inch fish on 4-6x tippit that takes off up or down stream like a frieght train.....there are alot of small motels that you can get rooms at for reasonable rates as its off season from summer tourism....i haven't been up home in the fall for several years but i do miss the steelhead fishing.....you can check this website.... fisherie.com.....there is a fishing report section and is usually all steelhead reports starting in oct till the streams freeze over....the bait shop that would have up to date info would be poor richards they have a website ......poorrichardserie.com ....... good luck if you ever decide to make a trip up
i fish because the voices in my head tell me to

    I LIKE IT !!!! Someone's been busy.

In your second pic, what's that pattern called?

In the second pic from the bottom, in the 2nd and 3rd rows of egg patterns, is that black/pink and black/white? Have not seen or used that color.

Where do you use all those?
