    Default Elk and Duck Report

Fished the Elk for three hours this morning with 720 cfs discharge. Water temperature was 53 degrees and murky. No problem wading (carefully). Fishing was poor. It's my guess that the higher flow of water had the fish disinterested. Even saw a Great Blue Heron that was disoriented. He sailed down into the water from a dead tree branch and landed in water that was too deep for him. I am sure that he had landed on that gravel bar plenty of times with 100 cfs flow. Anyway, he made it back onto his tree branch OK. Just a little wet and shaken.

Then I headed over to the Duck and am I ever glad that I did. The flow over there was 255 cfs. The water was stained. Water temperature was 58 degrees. And the rainbows were tearing up my wooly bugger and soft hackle tandem rig. Had a great time. Don't know why I don't fish the Duck more often.
