Being a newb to fly fishing(as well as unemployed at the moment), I am trying to save some money on my first fly fishing outfit. But, being an avid "regular" fishermen, I know the feeling of having a nice combo versus the "cheapest" route. So I was just curious if any of you guys ever buy used gear if you come across it? Basically i'm just looking to try to save a few bucks on some descent gear to get started out with. I'm looking towards an 8 1/2-9ft 5 or 6wt rod. I can manage a reel as I know they don't seem to hardly be as important as having a descent rod. I'm hoping to be able to stay under $150 for a rod/reel/line outfit.
As far as new rods I have been considering, here is a quick list...
St. Croix Triumph(on clearance at Cabelas for 69.8
Okuma SLV(69.99 on Amazon)
Redington Crosswater combo($99.00 at Cabelas)
Just a note to everyone, I am all for purchasing from the "little guy" when possible, however I don't really have a "little guy" fly shop close(LRO is about 2hrs away)....and me being on a tight budget right now, its just hard to spend more money when I can get by cheaper.
So onto rods, I would appreciate any suggestions or if anyone might have any ideas for me. Thanks!
