Ha! Now that I look at that post, it does seem a bit geeky. Can't help it though, as i've taken an interest in those type of books over the past few years.

I actually think I'll need to build myself a new book shelf to accomodate them. I'm currently over-using the "stacking" system of storage.

This from a man whose mother is the queen on the card catalogue. She never would put those SI Swimsuit issues on the shelf for me. Elle MacPherson still gives me hot flashes.

Jim's latest book is legendary in this guy's eyes.

Incredible amount of usable information and an appropriate amount of history.

I've practically worn my soft-cover edition out.

The best book of it's kind that I've read anywhere.

fyi....if anyone is looking for a good deal on some used copies...McKays in Knoxville (as of noon today) had 2 of Ian Rutter's Books, Don Kirk's book, The Wild East, Harvey Broome's personal journal, Strangers in High Places, Our Southern Highlanders, both of D.R. Beeson's hiking journals, and a great Chris Camuto book called "Another Country" (author of a fly fisherman's blue ridge.

Many of these will be gone by the weekend, and some, I felt, were a bit overpriced, but I was suprised at today's selection.

Smoky--Thanks. Now I have two fans, although one of them (my wife) can be a tad tetchious (an old mountain version of the more commonly used tetchy) at times (:!

For anyone that fishes the LR drainage The Last Train to Elkmont is a great little book. This history of the logging era in this area is a wonderful read and will give you a great perspective on how this area was before and after the wood cutters arrived.

I agree with you that Ian Rutter's book is the best.
