Default Bone Valley Closed due to Bear Activity

FYI, my wife just called to tell me the park service left me a message that the Bone Valley campsite is closed. I haven't called yet to find out what my options are, just passing the info along. Does the park service ever reopen a site after closing it within a short amount of time?

Sugar Fork right down below is a nice site. Sometimes it's only a few days, some times it's weeks, just depends on what happened. If it's an aggressive bear they may try to remove it first. My guess is that if they are having a problem with a bear, he is making the rounds up and down the trail.

Yeah flyman is right cs 84 sugar fork is a very pretty site. It is pretty close to bone valley to just .5 miles one climb over a small hill and you drop right down to it. Of course that means the bear doesn't have far to get to you either but that just adds some color (hopefully not red) to make the trip more exciting . I stayed at 84 for a few days last spring and walked up to bone valley creek every day and fished it all the way up to the hall cabin. You can fish up from 84 to 83 too the water is fine between the two.

In my opinion #84 is much nicer than #83 anyway. Can't believe they didn't close both of them considering the short distance between the two.

Interestingly the nps hasn't updated their site with 83 being closed yet. Usually they update that pretty quickly but you know the gubment:

    http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/temproadclose.htm

Maybe they will get it updated tomorrow. They do have 86 listed with a warning from bear activity down at the mouth of hazel.

The site is updated saying 83 and 84 are closed, but aren't listed under the bear warning list.

Sawdust pile is a good camp to, I've camped there many times. It gives you access to the upper and lower creek. The horseshoe from the 2nd to the 3rd bridge is some of my favorite water to fish.

I camped at Sawdust this past Spring because the rangers advised Sugar Fork and BV were closed. I fished up to Sugar Fork one morning only to find a guy on horseback that had a nice campsite set up at Sugar Fork. Sure enough there was a NPS sign at the site stating that it was closed.

FYI, NPS rules do not apply to cowboys.
