    One more:

When wading a large river, you spend all your time trying to cast to the middle of the river. When floating a large river, you spend all your time trying to cast back to the banks.

    For your consideration,

the person that it took me years to talk into fly fishing the smokies with me now goes more often than me and catches more fish than me every time we fish together.

About 10 years ago, I was in my boat fishing with my dad. We were chunking plastic worms up on the shore and bouncing them along the bottom on the way back to the boat (and, I may add, catching a lot of bass).

My dad asked essentially the same question: "why is it when you're fishing from the shore, you cast as far out in the lake as possible and when fishing from a boat, you throw the lure up on the shore and drag it back into the water?

    My answer:
"Dad, the fish are always where we're not."

I thought it was a pretty good summary of fishing in general.
