Post Small Nymph Fishing Essentials: [Davy Knot]

Once again, I thought I would share my favorite small-nymph knot for finicky fish. I believe having a small knot on small midges/nymphs is helpful in addressing finicky fish in slack water. Here is a link to a simple video on how to tie the knot. It is very easy and super quick.

Looks less bulky than most knots. I like to use a surgeons loop so that the midge moves more freely.

    Shawn,

Very easy to tie and less bulky than the knot I'm currently using, just read a few comments and it seems popular with tournament fishers since it's a quick tie. I'll assume it has held together well on the larger Clinch trout?

Davy Wotton is a very skillful and interesting character. I watched some of his wet fly dvd's and they are a gem. One of these days I will try to swing by his Arkansas rivers. Btw, thanks to Pete Z on this forum for letting me know about the knot last year. The only problem I've had with it is in lighter tippet. It's superb for 5x and thicker but not so good on 6x for me.

Davy came up with the knot while on the Wales fly fishing team. He needed an easy and fast knot suitable for heavy competition fishing.
