Hey guys! I'm thinking about heading down to the Smokies next weekend (Dec 10-12), but have some questions first. This was my first year ever fishing in the Smokies, even though I've been fly fishing for several years. I fished in the spring and summer and did pretty good on dry flies.
First, where should I fish? I don't mind hiking a little, but I'm not planning on backpacking. I really enjoyed fishing Sams Creek and Thunderhead earlier in the year. Am I going to be better off with lower elevation streams like the Little? Should I avoid high elevation streams? What about some brook trout streams like up by the Chimneys?
Second, it sounds like (based on a few posts) that nymphs are going to produce better than dry flies. So, how do you guys rig? Dry fly with a dropper? Or do you use a strike indicator?
Thanks for the tips!!!!
