    Default Winter Wading Jacket?

Hey guys, So i'm looking into getting me a decent(something to get me by)/affordable jacket to wear while i'm wading this winter. My budget is preferably under $50-75 bucks or so. I don't want to(and really can't) spend a ton on it as it won't be something i'll be using very often. Just something that would be waterproof and knock off the wind. I plan on layering underneath it, so alot of insulation is not necessarily a big concern.

    What would you guys recommend?

    bubbatn,

In your efforts at a cold weather wader jacket you might want to look at what is offered for Duck hunting. I use some of my duck hunting clothing during my winter fly fishing trips.

Duck hunting clothing is made for cold weather and also for wearing with waders and can be cheaper than most Fly fishing clothing.

Ducky hunting clothing will be offered in all kinds of different camo patterns, made for a wide variety of winter weather conditions and have a wide range of prices available.

    Good luck

    bubbatn-

Mac's suggestion of duck hunting gear is a good one.

Also, since you're going to layer underneath of it, I use a hooded thick Goretex parka from Bass Pro, which was about $85. I got it large enough that I could put multiple layers of clothing underneath. Has a bunch of pockets for stuffing fly gear. (BP also makes some GoreTex pants to go with it). Keeps me warm & dry!

    Just a thought.

I noticed that the Weather channel folks use LL Bean jackets, but they seem
over priced to me. If you marry a hunter , you can borrow their camo gear for free.

I like the Bass Pro Shop stuff that is priced in this range. Note the how the cuffs of the sleeves work and if they will allow you to wear gloves without bunching up the sleeve. Also, you want a nice bib feature when zipped up and hooded to help protect your face from the wind. The waste should be short so that it does not touch the water and it should have a nice elastic cord to keep the warmth inside.

Here is a nice jacket I found on the net that is fairly priced.

Duck hunting apparel is a great idea and I am a big fan of LL Bean. You might want to check out www.sierratradingpost.com which has some great deals and several search options. Sounds like you might want to look for a decent rain jacket if your going to be layering anyway? If so, I'd get something a little larger in size to accommodate your layers.

I don't have a specific product in mind for that price range.

I agree with the rain jacket idea (breathable) and layering. That will work all year and is exactly what I do. As mentioned before, get it a little large, but as short as possible.
