Default Only an afternoon to fish......

    Hey Folks,
Been absent for a while, business has been crazy, but I need some advice please.....

Have an afternoon this week to fish the park out of Townsend sideafter a visit to LRO midday. Going to have a novice with me and won't be able to venture far off the beaten path:

Was thinking Middle Prong from the Laurel Creek Road turn off up to the Institiute (Staying Below the Institiute)
    -OR-
Should I just work up LR toward Elkmont and take him to the wall below the campground?
    -OR-
Driving in to Cove and fishing Abrams from the trail head down toward the falls from the lot (short hops in and out)

Just trying to get a judge on water levels, and find some decent water for the Newbie (an older gentleman)....hate to just throw him in the river at Metcalf.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We had some luck the other day fishing along the gravel road at Treemont. Not a whole lot of rises but seemed decent enough. Just a thought.

Ha! No, not really. I am getting better though...slowly. Now that the heatwave is over I'll be painting some more. Here are some of my more recent works:

Fished Elkmont sunday night and this afternoon.

Both days were tough with only a couple fish to hand. As you know...the flow is welll...a trickle.

I am hearing The Tree is wishing well.

The light Cahill(16)produced the best for me.

    Good luck.

    Default Couple of things...

Blue Raider Fan: Love the boats! and wonder if the Barn has "See Rock City on the Roof?" hehe

I did in fact make it to the Park Thursday afternoon! Ethan and Bill squared us away and pointed us in the direction of the park almost apologetically.

Sniffed around below Institiute on middle prong found a few mud holes, no luck.

Scoped out a few of the deeper holes around the bridges only fauna to be found was Tubers, and Rock Chukkers...some nice "scenery" at a couple of them but nothing to risk 20 years of marriage over.

Made way up Elkmont, picked up one of those trout shaped Carp looking things from under a rather Large Couple of Rocks(you all know the place), one missed trout and not much else.

Came back to the big rock wall roadside down from campground, watched a gazillion #22 sized minnows try to eat a #16 dry....drowned every wet fly in the box deep down the length of the wall, snagged the waders on a rooster tail left hanging in a bush by a spin fisher packed up and drove 4.5 hours home.

    All considering....
One of the greatest day's ever!
regardless of the slow fishing, I was still in a little bit of heaven on earth!

Ha ha! Thanks, Plunker...the barn is my sisters...it's only about twnety minutes or so from her place to the park. It's sometimes my base camp when I come up. As far as the fishing, yeah, this time of year you probably have to be pretty high up like at Walker Camp Prong or a couple of miles above Elkmont. In another month it will be prime. We just need one good rain and I think Irene is gonna hook us up. Glad you had a good time. The park is very special and we are lucky to live so close to it.
