    Default Best place to camp

What are your favorite places to camp in the GSMNP and surrounding areas?

Backcountry. I've been to some good ones but am curious as to what are peoples favorites.

I can usually combine both types of favorites in one trip...front country favorite is Elkmont Campground...and when the bears will leave it alone I love camping at BC#24...about a 4.5 mile hike into a great site...early June you have the fire flies putting on their famous show...and from here you can fish enough different water to keep you busy for 4-5 days....fish from the site upstream and there's a good chance for a slam without moving from the same water.

I don't camp in the park very much, but my favorite sites have been 13, 23, and 56. I really haven't been to many of the backcountry sites in the park. I like the NF's better.

I get into the backcountry a good bit (10 different sites, over 20 nights under the stars this year!), but I dont go far usually, and my favorites so far have been 95 and 39. I also love slickrock creek in the CNF. Not necessarily the best for fishing, but they are either scenic or isolated, or just have good memories there already.

Talking Any place you can score a cross country permit

I don't do all that many overnighters compared to many here, but have always like 23, 10, 13, 17, 18, and 47 as campsites. I also enjoy Silers Bald, Derricks Knob, and Spence Field, and Tricorner Knob shelters.

I think I may have to volunteer for the stream mapping program just to ensure I can get cross country permits
