I got lucky as I was told the water was only 43 degrees. Saw one other trout break the surface for something. Tried a couple of flies but didn't get any interest in them. I did see a lot of midges and winter stoneflies. I'm going to wait for warmer water. The weather itself was great! Good luck!
So Im guessing you caught that on the Tellico River, not on a different river but a Telllico Nymph right. If it was on the river, that is reasuring. I used to fish there quite a bit, caught some very nice browns but no little or medium ones. I was beginning to think that they were not spawning successfully, and may be headed to a fate similiar to thaat of Abram's Creek. I know that I catch plenty of fingerling size browns on the Little and other rivers, but never on the Tellico River. Just wondering, does anyone else see the same results? Or are some of you catching small, say 3-4 inch browns on the Tellico River?
This is the first time I have fished the Tellico in several years. Can't say anything about sizes of any type of fish. I caught this one on a wooly bugger- black marabou tail, black chenille body and grizzly hackle. I have never caught anything (trout) on a Tellico nymph! Fished one on the Tellico, Hiwassee, and the Park. Nothing, zilch, nada, nichts.
