    Default wing burners

I'm new to tying and have been looking around web sites for ideas and patterns, I came across wing burners and cutters that look very real. I'd like to know if any of you use these and if the realism is a factor in success of a pattern.I really like the way they look

I've used them. They do make a pretty wing, but I found them more trouble than they are worth. Other wing styles such as hen hackle tips, hair and various synthetics seem to work just fine without the bother. If you think you would like to give it a try if for no other reason than to experiment with it , go for it. Experimenting with techniques is one of the neat aspects of tying.

I have had a set for over 30 years and have used them on occasion. I hate the smell of burning feathers. They are easy to make your self with a strip of brass and a file.
