    Default holston river fished well

Fished the Holston this morning from sun up until about noon. I was a few miles below the dam, but was quite surprised that the water stayed high well after 8 when they quit running generators at 7...actually it was up until about 9, but I got there at daybreak so I rigged up a wooley bugger and hit the high water. The bugger got some strikes, and a few hook ups with LDR's, but no fish to hand. Once the water went down I caught fish pretty much everywhere I moved to. Mostly on PT's and a few on various midge larvae. I was really shocked however at the size, or lack there of, of the fish I caught. After landing close to 20 only 2 fish were close to 12 inches, most falling short of 9 inches... Sure hope they grow a lot before the caddis flies start coming off in the spring...

    2weight,

were you on private land? I'm trying to get out there tomorrow and give the holston a try for the first time but heard that most of the river is private land.

Does anyone have any advice on spots, flies, etc.

Hugh is the Holston guru and knows may access locations; now that he is retired from guiding perhaps he will disclose these spots.

I heard one can walk down the left bank OR park on the Grainger side at the quarry but have never fished yje "top" end only down at Nance's.

When we have ventured to the SoHo, we always accessed the river via River Bend Rd. At the end of this road just as turns into a culdesac, there is a parkling lot on the right. Park there and follow the trails through the woods to the river. The property that you pass through as I understand it, is owned by T.U. so you have no issues accessing the river. This is a great stretch of water to fish both upstream and down. Be advised of the flow schedule, when it comes on, it is like a tsunami hitting there.....not much time to get out of deeper water.
God gave fishermen expectantcy so they would never tire of throwing out a line.

flyman u talking about the south holston or the holston? I was asking about the holston.

I did have the chance to get out there for a bit this weekend and had good action but i was only out there for an hour or less because the buddy i brought sprung a leak in his waders.

I hope that there will be a chance to get out this weekend but we will have to see how much they lower the lakes.
