Please let us know how you do. I have been wanting to night fish for a long time but never have. Will be interested to hear about your experience and how you do.

Thanks so much for the input! Y'all have provided a lot of info, and I appreciate y'all taking the time to do so. The first step for me is to go to LRO and get an 8 wt. rod that's been on my wish list for awhile. I figure on 'up-sizing' my leaders and tippet too. I'm really looking forward to it, hopefully catching a nice fish or two will be a bonus to seeing (or hearing) the river come to life at night. There's a spot on the Clinch that I'm familiar with and that's where I'm going to try this out. It may be a little while before I can make the trip, but I will provide a report when I do. And Grumpy, if I hook a bat, I'm just going to cut the line and run! Thanks again y'all!
If you want any company fishing at night let me know I just moved here from PA and have fished for Browns at night many times so would be happy to share my flies etc.

I've done it in PA at night as well. Like everone else said, pick a stream you know. Also, try not to wade. Wading at night, even on a stream you know, is taking a risk you just don't want to take. The guys who said streams become different places at night are right on. It does freak you out at first. Be safe, that's the number one priority.

Rig up before you get out to the stream. You don't want to be messing with tippet and flies when you get out there. Someone said unweighted sculpins. I'll second that. Unweighted sculpins, mouse patterns, anything that pushes and displaces water. Pound the banks!

Oh, and keep your head lamp OFF THE WATER!

    And watch out for bears!

    Default Night fishing

Anyone have any tips on what to use (Clousers, wiggle minnows, favorite rat/mouse types) and what line weights work @ night?

Any big streamers work well, better if they have deer hair or wool heads so they push a lot of water. I like the Kelly Galloup articulated styles streamers and fish them on a sink tip line on a 6-8 weight with 20IB straight mono short tippet.
