Question first time fishing in the park

Lord willing, Saturday will be my first time fly fishing in the park. We are staying in Townsend, so I'd like to fish somewhere close by. Since it's a holiday weekend, I'm guessing Tremont will be crowded? I'm thinking about trying the West Prong but I'm not sure. I want to catch trout, but the size and numbers are not as important to me as the trip itself. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    hNt

Oh, I forgot, I'd love a chance at a brookie. I've never caught one.

    Thanks again,

If you want to catch a brook trout, I'd recommend you drive on newfound gap road and park at or near the Alum Cave Bluff trailhead. The stream that runs right past there (I don't recall the name) has a mix of bows and brookies. Try a yellow Neversink caddis and "pink weenie" dropper combo.

I'll be in the park most of the day fishing. I'm looking to head into some brookie territory. I'll be up there around 8am. If your interested in going just stop at little river outfitters at 8 and we can meet up. I'll be in a black honda accord.

Brookie looking? Take Cherokee Orchard Road until you get to the Twin Creeks Research area (look on your right). There's little-known LeConte Creek back in there and there are actually some fairly sizable brookies in that roost. I have NEVER caught a rainbow in LeConte - only brookies.

Bigger than any other fish I've caught in the park so far!

Then drive up a little more and you will find the Ogle Place - old house and barn. Again, LeConte Creek is behind there and you'll catch brookies.

They bite any 14-16 inch white-ish dry you want to toss out there.

I've heard the saying you got to throw big flies to catch big fish, but 14-16 inches

I thought throwing size 10 dry flies was brave

I bet they are easy to tie. Do you use yarn instead of uni-thread?
