    Default Be Careful Byron!

Byron, I just saw this and it made me think of you and Paula fishing out of your kayaks after reading the Fishing Report today. I doubt you are targeting these fish thankfully. Hopefully those redfish will be a bit nicer to you and safer as well!

    Wow!

We were not going after anything like that. I did have a fairly large shark swim under my kayak one day last week. I think it was 4 feet or longer. I like to fish out of the kayak sideways with my legs hanging in the water. I cut my leg on the dock one day, had some scabs and left them in the boat the next day after seeing that shark.

I used to live in the Tampa bay area. I really did not do much Saltwater fly fishing, but I did a lot pier and surf fishing with standard gear. The main thing that you want to be careful of down there (if you are wading) is to shuffle your feet as you walk. This is to prevent you from stepping on any rays that might be lying on the bottom and they have been known to bury themselves in that sand. I have swam with rays before and even petted them while snorkeling. their stingers are purely a defensive mechanism.

Byron, the blood would have worked great for chumming.
