Default What is our personal favorite pattern to tie?

For me it would have to be the Copper John. size 14 or 16.

First would be a Flick, Catskill red quill. Next would be a CDC and deer. My most effective fly.

Do you put any lead wraps on your pink weenies?

    Kris,

No. I tie mine on a #12 3x long 2x heavy. I sometimes use a gold bead, but more for flash than weight. I don't think weight is neccisary because the stream I use them on are typically very small and quite shallow (Cosby creek is my go to brookie stream).

I have some for really early in the season that I wrap lead and use big cone heads on, but typically tie them unweighted. That way you can still have a decent sized dropper that still gives your dry fly good drift

A local Wisconsin pattern called a pink squirrel tied on a size 12 hook. Haven't had a chance to try it in the Smokies. Very simple pattern to tie. simply use a size 12 scud hook an appropriate size gold bead, abdomen; fur from the back of a fox squirrel and for the thorax you can use either pink chenille or dubbing. It's an easy pattern to tie and it's my go to fly for fishing upper midwest trout streams.

I love the Thunderhead in sizes 10-16.

Well....I would have guess your favorite size was an 8. Guess that's what happens when I assume
