    Default Smokies May 18-20, 2014

Another great camping trip is now over! I met up with my buddy Joe McGroom for a quick 2 night camping trip at Elkmont. When I arrived in the Park on Sunday morning, I found Joe working a nice run.

The Mountain Laurel has started blooming and we even spotted a Rhododendron or two blooming. Between that and spotting the first Golden stonefly I've seen this year, it is easy to tell that summer is well on its way.

One of the things that we both commented on several times was how many turkeys we kept spotting. This picture isn't the best but you can see that some are still strutting around.

The fishing was great everywhere we fished on both sides of the mountain. We hit everything from brook trout waters to streams where the slam was possible.

I found the slam on Monday which was a nice change of pace from fishing where I usually fish on LR and Middle Prong.

I really liked how this shot turned out with Joe sneaking through the shadows casting to a beautiful dry fly run.

Finally, here is a picture of a brown I caught on Little River that shows the beautiful colors of these fish.

As always, it was a great trip and I can't wait to get back and do it again. I think it is about time for a backpacking trip perhaps!

One day when I grow up I want to fish just like David Knapp

If I ever get half the skill, I'll even ditch my $50 pentax for some real glass too

    Great Post Awesome pics!

You mean you don't catch a 16+ inch Brown every trip?

Now if I can just win the lottery (you can win without playing right?), I'd hire this guy weekly

Hahaha, no not quite every trip... We honestly didn't spend too much time fishing for larger fish on this trip. It was more of a relaxing trip to do a little of everything the Park has to offer.

Nice report David. Glad to see you're still hitting the Park when you can.
My posts are worthless without pictures
