Talking Drop off the kids and hit the stream

This weekend the mother-in-law took the kids We were to meet at the Cataloochie exit, so I asked Nathan if he wanted to tag along and hit the stream after dropping off the kids. Sure enough he was game.

    We headed into the forest

Soon walked past a fisherman hung up in a tree to which I made some smart remark on how he should try and land it. Then after hiking a bit more smelled cigar smoke and thought we found Big Sur, but apparently he's not the only Cigar smoking trout fisherman. We collaborated to make sure we would all have fresh water and we were hiking in furthest. Passed up this lovely stream on the hike in.

We hike a good ways and eventually determined a decent drop in. After a minute I had my first fish and a decent one at that

    Nathan was doing well also

I was glad to be catching quality fish with hardly any dinks

    Lovely stream

I was pretty happy to be out

A yellow mayfly that was out and about

Nettles are doing well. Just glad they aren't neck high like in some places

Logs can really make it more difficult

Cool fungus growing on a rhodo branch streamside

    That's a log jam

Glad I wasn't around to get buried like this tree did

We didn't measure it so I'll just go with "perfect"

And another shot of his big rainbow:

One other hobby i have taken up along with fishing the park is catching the many different salamander species:

    Same one, different shot:

    Working a pool:

    Planning ahead

Lots of big trees in the this streams, blown out strainer dams, and strainer dams trying to form big pools

    Fish on!!!

    A nice bow for me:

    A good brookie for ducky:

My big brookie for the day, not my biggest fish all day, but probably my favorite for the day:

That must be like an oceanliner, takes 3 miles to turnaround!
