    Default New Mexico

I am leaving for Santa Fe on Saturday. Most of the trip is for business, but I will have a couple of days to hike and fish. Any recommendations for a good small stream?

    Thanks for any help!

Not sure what your schedule is and I have never fished it but you will be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to the San Juan River, ground zero from what I have read in John Ross's Top 100 Trout Streams for fishing in NM. Good luck no matter where you go and take some pics!

Fished the San Juan twice, once on the upper remote San Juan and once on the extreme lower Juan. Both times were in April, and both times were phenomenal. The second trip (the extreme lower river) we were the first people to access that section of water in over 3 months.... The fish were stupidly aggressive. However, all of that water was float only with no wade access, as most of it went through private ranches. We drove past the more popular section just below the dam as the boats and wade fishers were lined up taking turns...

That being said, I understood that you are looking for a small stream. I have heard good things from the Brazos River in the Santa Fe area. Also, the guide I had on the San Juan just raved about the June stonefly hatch on the Rio Grande. So, that may be something you want to try and hit since the timing may be right.

    Default Thanks Guys

I want to thank all of you for the information. I got on some sites this week and the stoneflies are on near Santa Fe. I will give a report when I return, unless my luck is bad that is.

So you got the ankle bracelet removed, or did you get permission from your parole officer to make the trip?
