    Default Columbus day 10-13-14

Monday, in honor of Columbus Day I went fishing with my friend and Little River TU chapter member Mike B., to a brook stream I hit last spring for the first time. This stream outside of the park was high on my bucket list and a repeat trip was only waiting for a cool fall day. After a few hours’ drive we hit the trail head where the leaves were already running a couple weeks ahead of the coming Smokies fall. The mountains rising in front of us were already red and gold with a strong wind coming in over the top of the ridge as we hit the first pool.

Find the fisherman, this is why Mike catches fish!

How's this for fall colors? Mike got this beauty!

    Love this pool

    And so does Mike!

Technicolor on a EHC, the main fly all day!

    O.K. it's a little tight!

Mike took the honors for the day, my fish were smaller but no regrets a great way to spend a Monday on a different stretch of water outside the park, We never saw another person all day, it was like 4 hours of private water.

Last pool of the day, what a closer!

    Really great pictures.
Those brook trout are full of color. For some reason, I never fish for them this time of year, but I need to change that.

    Nice Post!

I'm guessing you were on that stream you told me I needed to fish

I bet Mike had a hard time trying to land those Monster Brookies after his Alaska trip Hope he brought a 10 or 12 weight with him.

And is that chewing tobacco, or an old LRO fly box in your left cargo pocket?

Them Brookies are really showing their color. When the water recedes, I'll have to get out there. Thanks for the inspiration

Great looking brook trout, fairly sizable fish for that creek

Ducky, I had to think hard about what was in that pocket, I like my questionable friend Don Kirk and Stan (I need higer class friends!) are connoiseur's of a fine cigar and I enhance mine with a dark beer. I am scared Don lately has swtiched to a delicious moonpie and milk due to his rapid aging! After careful thought I realized it was not chewing tobacco; which I do not partake or a fly box but a part of my continuing minimalist approach to equipment and was in fact lunch, a to-go pack of peanut butter from the fine makers of Jiff, in addition to my go-to protein snack, a hard boiled egg which comes in it's own natural carrying case!

If you note, total equipment was a 5ft. 1wt which I had made just for this creek, a lanyard with tools, tippet and flys, water, and a wading stick to enable Bigsur to nimbly scamper from pool to pool and large knife to take myself out in case of bear attack!

As far as Mike, after his intial shock of the size difference between a Tennesse brook and a fish from Alaska, I think he enjoyed his day! His camera took the pictures of those full colored beauties and I tried to steal it with no luck!

I do not think my ego could have taken it if both you and Bill had gone also. I am sure I would have been impressed with all three of ya'lls skills at first but would have been reduced to tears and depression as my poor abilites surfaced, as you guys vacumed the pools!
