Default National Park Senior Pass Cost Increase August 28th, 2017

Just announced from the National Park Service (remember there is no admission cost for the Great Smoky Mountains). If you have a family member or friend 62 years or older, now is the time to get the pass for life for $10!

Note: 118 of 417 National Park Service sites have an entrance fee.

"On August 28, 2017, the price of the America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass will increase for the first time since 1994. The additional revenue will be used to enhance the visitor experience in parks. Learn more about the changes, what they mean for you, and how the additional funds will be used."

See link below for official news from Park Service website

Great Thunderhead, glad you got yours! If someone lives local they can purchase one like you did at the Cades Cove or Elkmont office. You can order online
also at LINK: https://store.usgs.gov/pass Remember, there is an additional $10 charge if purchased online.

You used to be able to purchase at the Townsend Visitors Center, but I just spoke with them and they have sold out due to the increased demand. Even if you order online at the link above it will tell you the processing time has increased due to high demand before the change to $80 one time or $20 annual fee. Check the NPS website for the closest area to you if you do not live here in the Smokies area and see if you reside near a NPS purchase point to avoid the delay.

Just a few days left until Senior Lifetime Pass for (All) National Parks price increases, this can be big savings; for example price for individual campsites in Smokies can be 50% lower! [REMEMBER: Group Site reservations do not receive the discount just individual camp sites.]
[NOTE: The Senior Lifetime Pass is jumping to $80 from $10!]

Here is the link for all the details:

How can I purchase a Senior Pass?
Senior Passes can be purchased at any federal recreation site, including national parks, that charges an entrance or standard amenity (day-use) fee. Proof of age and residency is required. CLICK HERE: See the complete list of sites where the pass is available (PDF).

Passes can also be purchased online or through the mail from USGS; an additional $10 processing fee will be added to the price. CLICK HERE: Visit the USGS store to buy the pass online or find instructions for purchasing by mail.

If you are 62 or older don't miss this one to save big!

We are experiencing a major increase in Senior pass sales.

    • Until the current backlog of Senior Pass orders are shipped, your order confirmation will be honored for use at agency sites.
    • If you need your pass in less than three months, consider purchasing your pass at the first site you visit. Please click here for a list of sites that issue passes. Please Note that USGS field offices DO NOT issue passes.
    • Online and Mail in Senior pass applications are currently being processed within twelve weeks

All eligible Senior pass orders placed online before 11:59 pm eastern daylight time on August 27 or mail orders postmarked on or before August 27 will be processed at the $10 price. Lifetime Senior pass orders placed online after 11:59 pm on August 27 eastern daylight time or mail orders postmarked after August 27 will be processed at the $80 price. Additional processing fees of $10 apply. For more information on the price changes, click here.
