Lake Tahoe area

Just found out I have business trip to South Lake Tahoe this September. Anyone have any info on stream (not lake) fly fishing in that area?

The Truckee River is supposed to be good. It flows out of the north end of Lake Tahoe. There are lots of really good looking small streams in that area as well. I was there one time when I was younger on a family vacation. I was about to die it seemed like because I didn't have the long rod with me . The water in all streams will be low in September, but the Truckee will be a good bet; if you are patient, you can tie into some very good fish on the Truckee. I actually prefer fishing the North Fork of the Yuba River near Sierra City because it has less fishing pressure and in general is a prettier stream. You can park at Harrington's Inn in Sierra City and access a fly fishing-only section of the river by walking downstream and across a narrow meadow. Most of the fishing is pocket water with a scattering of large pools. The fish are not large but 15" or larger fish are not at all unusual.

The Tahoe area is pretty indeed. I live a couple hours away (on the Upper Sacramento) and all that I can add to what's been written is that due to the good snowpack this year -- the flows in September will probably be pretty good (not high, just good). You might hitting it just about right, though late September would probably be much better than early September (if you have a choice).
