    Default dry fly wings

I was wondering if any other fly-tiers tie their dry flies with no wings. That is- just wrap hackle...no wings. I do it for the ease of tying and if you really think about it the trout cant see the wings any way...right? I believe this has not affected my catch rate at all...thats just asking me

I believe in Catskill style dries, the wings are more for balancing out the fly than for convicing trout of the offering. Not only that, but the butts of the wings fill out the thorax area of the mayfly, and give a truer body profile. With alittle practice, tying in wings will only add a few minutes to the overall tying time of each fly. Just my 2cts.

Hey AA-thanks for the reply and the opinion. I guess I never really thought about it for the mechanics of the fly. Now granted: if Im casting to trout on a tailwater Ill tie wings, but if it's mnt. trout Im after (which it usually is) I go through alot more flies, so it's easier to tie w/o wings. Come to think of it, I do need to practice with wings...

i think AA is right wings just balance the fly not fool trout. but they do make a fly box look prettier.
