Don't know about the rest of youns, but I have been having some fun with Gar this summer. We have been foating the TN river, and Chicamauga Lake catching Gar. Gar usually like top water slower moving flies. We have been catching them while fishing for bass on the lake, and in the river they will scare you how close they come to you.

A friend of mine ties probably the easiest fly ever. About 6" of just regular nylon rope, a steal leader, a nut from your garage toolbox and put them together. You can use color markers to change the fly to the color of the baitfish you have around you.

I tie a black-nosed dace and then take about 10 turns of 50# monofilament around my finger, then tie this in a figure 8 pattern on top of the fly (sort of like para-wings) in the hopes that the gar gets his teeth tangled in the mono loops, works as often as not.....something to try anyway.
