    Default Summer Internships??

I know this is going to be a long shot but I am trying to get my foot in the door on any type of program or internship that relates to wildlife and fisheries conservation. Didn't know if you all knew of anything or anyone that could help out with that.

    UTKFlyFisher,

If your major is in wildlife and you plan to continue with a Masters in Fisheries Biology contact Steve Moore or Matt Kulp at Great Smoky Mountains Fisheries Department. I don't have their mailing address right now but their office is at Park Headquarters in Gatlinburg. Just go on line and get it. They hire seasonal college students to work on their fish crew. It would also be a good idea to join the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited and volunteer for every project in the park. That way you will get to know Steve and Matt. Be prepared to work harder than you ever have in your life.

    UTK,

I just talked to Steve Moore. If you are interested you better move quick. They are looking over applications right now for the 07 season. I would hand deliver a resume to Park Headquarters and by chance Steve or Matt might be there. That's what I would do.

The South Eastern Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers has donated funding for an inturn at the park this year so i know that there is at least one position.

There is also a link on the GSMNP web site about volunteering. There is an organization, whose name I don't remember right now, based somewhere in New England that coordinates young volunteers to work at national parks nationwide.
