    Default Hand tie leader recipes

Can anyone give me a recipe for 2 generic hand tied leaders? One for dry flies and one for wet flies. I am using a 4 wt TFO Fineese.

George Harvey dry fly recipe: Can be made longer or shorter if needed.
    10ft
    10" - .017
    20" - .015
    20" - .013
    20" - .011
    12" - .009
    18" - .008
    22-28" - .007 -.006
    General nymph leader recipe:
    8ft
    30" - .021
    18" .019
    12" .017
    6" .015
    6" .012
    6" .010
    18" - .008 and smaller
    Streamers:
8-12ft. of straight flourocarbon in 2-3X

Wanted to add this: Before investing in alot of leader materials, try the Blue sky furled leader in 4-6 wt for dry flies. They are terrific and you only have to add tippet. I use them for poppers also. I also agree with flymans post below, there are some good leaders on the market that you can just add tippet onto.

I use to tie mine, too many good inexpensive ones on the market now days. Plus I can usually fine tune one by cutting back or adding a piece or two. I would use the same one for dry flies and unweighted or lightly weighted wet flies.

Thanks for the information. I have tried everything that the two of you have suggested. I typically carry new "store bought" leaders for when the need may rise (pardon the pun). However, I do like to recycle my leader butts and was looking for a general recipe for the last few feet of the leader.

    Hey Junky,
Go this site and look on the left hand side bar for a program called "Leaercalc 2007"

You will find more recipes than you can tie in a lifetime. All sizes and lengths
